Around Here.

Tree is decorated. Christmas shopping done (for the most part.) Presents wrapped. Cards mailed. Cookies made (&hopefully on the blog soon!) T and I are enjoying this season and the large amount of time we have together right now. I'm ready for Christmas parties, gift unwrapping, and cookie eating! And my week off from work next week!

Hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season!

Felt Ornaments

With all this felt that I have laying around, I wanted to put together some quick and simple ornaments with our monograms on them. I wanted them to be Christmas colored, but also stand out from the green tree so I grabbed some pea-soup green and red felt and some red embroidery floss and put these ornaments together while I was watching TV. Here's what I did...

1. Cut two same-sized circles out of felt.

2. Cut the letter out of felt. I just looked at the font on my computer and drew out a match, but you could also print it out and create a stencil. Whatever is easiest for you.

3. Hot glue to one of the circles. You could also run this through the sewing machine, which I would have done if I kept my machine readily available.

4. Hot glue ribbon or yarn to the inside of the back circle. Not the circle you just glued the letter to.

5. Using a blanket stitch, sew all the way around the circle until the stitch is connected. A blanket stitch is pretty simple, but sometimes mine still looks a little funky. Here is a really bland, yet helpful, youtube video on the blanket stitch.

6. Hang on tree and admire.

I love how simple and graphic they are. I plan on making a set for our friends as a hostess gift!

Decorating Our First Tree

As I've said in previous posts, I am very into Christmas this year. And I knew that I wanted to have a Christmas tree because it would be T and I's first Christmas living together. We knew it would be a bit of a challenge to get a skinnier tree that was actually taller than me (all the skinny ones are like 5'5" and I didn't want to be taller than our tree), but it only took three places to find one that would work for us. It's pretty cute, with it's imperfections, but it fits great in the space and doesn't overcrowd the room. I'm always worried about that for some reason.

Each Christmas that we've been together, we've brought each other a Christmas ornament. I'm so happy that we started doing this from the beginning now that we actually have our tree to put them on. The filler ornaments and star we picked up at Target. Since don't have a tree skirt though, but I haven't looked very hard either...

We played Christmas music, I drank hot cider, we laughed. All in all, a great night.

Decisions, Decisions

My second craft show was great! Made back my table on Friday night plus some, so Saturday was all profit. Sold to a couple of other vendors and met a vendor who gave me some contact info for a shop that sells handmade items. Even people who weren't buying appreciated what I was selling and I got many compliments on how cute and well put together my items and table was. It was actually pretty humbling...

I had only scheduled two craft shows before Christmas because I really didn't know how this whole thing was going to go and now I wish I had more to do. I really enjoy them. It feels like a challenge to put myself out there and see how it goes. I only have this weekend open to sell somewhere else, so now I need to decide if I want to try to get a spot at a local flea market, that is pretty popular during Christmastime. Like I said, decisions, decisions... I wish that someone was available to just tell me what to do. I'm not used to be so in charge of my time. Ha.
