October Finds

It's been a little while since I've had time to spend thrifting, which is really quite sad. Somehow, I made it through the warmer months without stepping foot into a flea market either, which is even more depressing.

My mom and I have a lot of things in common, but one of them is a love of thrifting and searching flea markets. It's pretty amazing actually. I'll tell her that I'm looking for a stew pot, and a few days later she'll call and tell me there's a stew pot waiting for me at her house. (This really happened this week. $2!!) That little wooden shoe and kitty statue came from a trip with my mom two weekends ago, where I also picked up two jelly jar glasses with Peanuts characters on them.

The other items came from a day last week when I decided to pop in on my way home from work. A glass milk bottle, some Ball jars, and two terracotta pots and two glass candle holders that are just screaming to be turned into DIY projects.

That same trip I also picked up this caboodle for a friend of mine, and a Chuck Klosterman book for $2!

But I'm saving the best for last. The day I found this gem in the thrift store, my mom and I were cracking up in the middle of the store.

Because who doesn't need a handmade corn-on-the-cob costume?!? This is what thrifting dreams are made of!

Happy Thrifting!!

August Finds

Sometimes you walk to breakfast, eat some French toast and turkey bacon, stop at a local odds and ends shop, and end up finding two Indiana Jones framed photos on the way home. And these are the mornings I live for.

All kidding aside, I have some kind of deep-seeded crush on Indiana Jones. And now I have a framed photo of him hanging in our downstairs bathroom (where I just did a washi tape wall treatment) and another that hasn't quite found a home yet. Just needed some new frames...

Tim also picked up some records from the dollar bin! Good day all in all.

May Thrift Finds

Do you ever pick up thrift store finds and wonder who the previous owner was? I always do, especially when the items are quirky and strange like these little cuties. Who else wanted puppy (dachshund?) suncatchers and why would they discard them??

T and I have been taking nightly walks around town now that the weather is nice since I'm always itching to get outside once I'm home from work. We're also loving the easy exercise and I'm loving that there are several thrift stores within walking distance of our apartment.

I always walk up and down each of the bric-a-brac sections of thrift stores because I love housewares. These two suncatchers were just hanging on a lone hook next to a dog leash and I nabbed them immediately. They're so darling!

Can't wait to find a home for them! For 95cents, how could I turn these little guys down?

Anyone else pumped for warmer weather and flea market season? I know I am!

March Finds

So I don't know if you could call these finds, since most of these were found in beautifully curated shop in South Philly but still wanted to share my fun stuff. If you've never been Era Atomica and you live anywhere near Philadelphia, you should probably go. Like tomorrow.

New ice bucket for our bar and two little pups!

Can't wait to find a little spot to display these!

Somehow, I found two more of those glass jars with the floral tops from this post AND a working alarm clock! It's adorable and I'm thrilled. Huzzah.

Flea Market Successes.

Part of the fun about flea markets is, they're hit or miss. Sometimes you make out like a bandit, and sometimes your bags are still empty. This past weekend, my mom discovered an indoor flea market on 9th and Spring Garden (Philadelphia) that we knew we needed to check out. I was almost through the first go around with nothing when I found some gems.

Two little jars with these floral tops= in love. Having figured out what I want to do with them, but still loving them.

We also have been searching for the perfect drink glasses for our bar, and I found these little babies. Set of four for $15. I love how different they are. And then they're is this...

This might be one of my best finds recently. My mom always had a cedar chest in her bedroom and I always loved the way it smelled. Once we moved into our apartment and needed storage for bed linens, I started keeping an eye out for hope chests. I quickly realized that most hope chest are very large and clunky, very early American. When I found this one, it seemed the perfect size and very mid-century modern. It's my new love.
